Abstract

This study aimed to identify the effects of physical activity characteristics on hypertension among young people in their 20s in South Korea by analyzing their current status of hypertension and physical activity characteristics. For this purpose, the original data of the eighth first National Health and Nutrition Survey were used for representative sample selection and analyzed using a complex sample analysis method with SPSS 26.0. Results indicated that about 29% of the participants belonged to the prehypertension abnormal group that included those with hypertension and prehypertension in their 20s, and confirmed their physical activity characteristics as long sitting time in daily life and a high level of walking, muscle exercise, and aerobic physical activity. Furthermore, while gender and age had a significant effect on the prehypertension abnormal group, physical activity characteristics of those in their 20s did not significantly affect the prehypertension abnormal group. Therefore, in order to prevent and address hypertension in young people in their 20s, men and those aged 25 years or older should be selected and managed as a high-risk group, and life style-related aspects for those in their 20s that are differentiated from other age groups should be taken into consideration as relevant factors. This study is meaningful in that it identified the generational characteristics that must be considered for managing hypertension among young people.
